Free Classes for Veterans to Train for a Career in Tech
Posted January 30, 2023NPower, a national non-profit organization, is offering free classes for veterans to train for a career in technology. No tech background is required. Their Tech Fundamentals program offers the following to have veterans ready for the job in less than six months:
- 16 weeks of interactive virtual training with live instructors
- Paid opportunities and career placement assistance with access to a top range of employers
- Earn industry-recognized credentials and certifications from CompTIA and Google
Exposure to Microsoft, Cisco, AWS, and other leading technologies
- Networking with senior level IT professionals through NPower’s mentorship program, NPowerMATCH
- Employment readiness workshops to prepare for job searching, interviews, and higher wage IT careers
- A full range of ongoing social support including guidance navigating challenges with VA benefits, financial hardship, housing, food insecurity, childcare assistance, and more
- Most common entry-level tech jobs are Desktop Support Technician, Junior Network Engineer, and Systems Support Specialist, with graduates’ average starting salaries at $40,000.
Military applicants must be either transitioning active-duty service member through the DoD SkillBridge program, honorably discharged, or a member of the Guard or Reserves. Must be between the ages of 18-26 and have earned a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
