Independence Day Celebration Lights Up the Hudson River

Posted July 10, 2026

Guttenberg had a front-row seat to the nation’s 250th anniversary Independence Day celebration on Jul. 4, 2026. The festivities began with an international aerial demonstration over the Hudson River, led by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, along with military aircraft from many other countries.

Then it was the ships’ turn, as Sail 4th 250 presented the largest-ever flotilla of tall ships from around the world, parading up the Hudson River past our community on their way to the George Washington Bridge and back again. Residents and guests along the Guttenberg waterfront and Palisades had a terrific view of this once-in-a-lifetime event, with many cheering on the vessels of their favorite countries.

The day was capped by the annual fireworks display at 9 p.m. While the Macy’s display was hidden on the other side of Manhattan, the Jersey City fireworks were visible from the shoreline and provided a fine ending to a truly historic celebration.

Special thanks are due to the officers of the Guttenberg Police Department and employees of the DPW and Parks Department who worked throughout the day and night to keep our streets, homes, residents, and visitors safe during the event.
