New High Tech High School Hosts Cornerstone Dedication Ceremony
Posted June 08, 2018The New High Tech High School hosted a cornerstone dedication on Thursday, June 7 at its new campus located at Laurel Hill Park in Secaucus. The ceremony was attended by numerous local elected officials, Hudson County Schools of Technology administrators, and High Tech students, teachers, and administration staff.
The cornerstone will serve as a time capsule, filled with items including yearbooks and various High Tech paraphernalia that has been collected by the school since it was founded.
The $160 million facility is expected to open for the 2018-2019 school year. It will provide for four academies focusing on vocational training, architecture and engineering, applied sciences, and the performing arts.
High Tech Principal Dr. Joseph Giammarella served as emcee for the event, noting that the project has been in the works for more than 15 years. Also speaking were Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, HCST Superintendent Frank Gargiulo, HCST Board President Craig Guy, and Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli.
Among the many other dignitaries in the audience were Guttenberg Mayor Wayne Zitt, Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, HCST Assistant Superintendent Amy Lin Rodriguez, North Bergen Commissioner and HCST Board Vice President Hugo Cabrera, Board Secretary Joseph Muniz, Director of Planning Joe Sirangelo, former West New York Mayor Sal Vega, and many others.
Following the dedication the attendees were treated to a variety of snacks prepared by students of High Tech High School’s culinary arts program.
