ALK School Unveils New Book Vending Machine to Reward Positive Behavior
Posted March 06, 2026Kids at Anna L. Klein School have a new incentive for exhibiting positive behavior. On Friday, Mar. 6, 2026 School Superintendent Jolene Mantineo cut the ribbon on a new Inchy Bookworm vending machine at the school.
Throughout the school year, students who exemplify positive behavior and good character are rewarded with tokens that allow them to choose books from the machine that are theirs to keep. The first seven kids stepped up immediately after the ribbon cutting to make their selections, ranging from sports to Star Wars to Marvel to sea adventures.
Council Members Monica Fundora, Richard Delafuente, and John Habermann joined in the ribbon cutting, along with Town Administrator Cosmo Cirillo, ALK Principal Keith Petry, members of the school board, and many other educators, as well as a crowd of kids.
The book dispensing machine initiative was spearheaded by Educational Director Sharon Rotundo as a way to encourage literacy and a love of reading. The unveiling took place during national Read Across America Week, when students celebrate literacy across the country.
