Residents Mourn Former GPD Officer Jesus Garcia
Posted November 24, 2025Jesus “Chuchi” Garcia passed away peacefully at age 59 on Saturday, Nov. 22 at his residence in North Bergen, surrounded by family members.
Jesus Garcia was born on Jan. 7, 1966 in Havana, Cuba, to parents Norma Almanguer and the late Jose Garcia. He proudly served the Fairview and Guttenberg community as a police officer. He was commander of the Guttenberg Police Department Honor Guard and a member of the Special Response Team, serving with courage and unwavering dedication.
Since 2021, he bravely battled ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), confronting each day with persistent strength until the very end.
The Guttenberg Police Department wrote: “P.O. J. Garcia was more than just a dedicated officer; he was a great coworker, a leader, a mentor, a loving husband, father, and, most importantly, an outstanding human being. He will be missed tremendously.”
Garcia is survived by his devoted wife, Marlene Garcia, and their loving daughter, Lauren Garcia Marcigliano, along with her husband, Genaro. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Julian Jesus, and Valentina Maria, and will be fondly remembered by his mother, Norma, and his dog, Diesel.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Barquin Funeral Home, 7101 Broadway. Morning visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 9 to 10 a.m. A Catholic blessing will be offered at 9:45 a.m.
