Hudson County held a gala luncheon on Wednesday, May 14 to honor the “Outstanding Senior of the Year” from each municipality. Guttenberg’s honoree at the prestigious annual event was Ruthann Perry.

 

Ruthann has been a resident of Guttenberg for over 73 years. She retired from the field of education after a successful 35-year career as a third-grade teacher at Anna L. Klein School. Due to her drive to serve her community, Ruthann was recognized as the 2000-2001 Teacher of the Year and was the recipient of the 2004 Excellence in Education Outstanding Service Award. She was also chosen by the town administration to serve as the Grand Marshal in the 2023 Guttenberg St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

 

Mayor Wayne Zitt and the Town Council selected her as the 2025 Outstanding Senior of the Year in recognition of her exceptional service, distinguished career, and commitment to the residents of the Town of Guttenberg.

 

The congratulatory event took place at Chandelier Catering in Bayonne, with a grand buffet feast followed by a presentation of certificates of appreciation to each of the honorees. Guttenberg Town Council Members Monica Fundora and John Habermann, along with Town Administrator Cosmo Cirillo, Senior Services Director Belkis Rubio, Community Services Coordinator Marisol Montanez, ALK Principal Keith Petry, and other educators and family members, joined in celebrating the occasion with Ruthann.

 

In addition to a proclamation from the town, Ruthann received a citation from County Executive Craig Guy stating, “The County of Hudson would like to thank you on behalf of its citizens and fellow seniors for your hard work and dedication to helping all in your community and the County of Hudson… Thank you for your hard work and dedication.”
