GP’s Throws Fantastic Block Party for 90th Anniversary
Posted October 18, 2024GP’s Restaurant & Bar in Guttenberg celebrated its 90th anniversary in Hudson County with a big block party on Sunday. Oct. 13, 2024. Located at the corner of 69th Street and Bellevue Avenue, the restaurant blocked off the street for a celebratory bash complete with free food, music, games, entertainment for kids, and more.
Mayor Wayne Zitt and the Town Council were there to share in the celebration, cutting an honorary ribbon and presenting a plaque to George Politis, the owner. Hundreds of other residents came out to enjoy the legendary gourmet meatballs, mozzarella and tomato skewers, tossed salad, and cheeseburgers, all for free courtesy of the restaurant.
Also available for purchase were sangria, Ethiopian honey wine, cigars, jewelry and clothing, plus t-shirts, hats, and other great GP’s swag. Meanwhile North Hudson Community Action Corporation handed out free health information and giveaways and James Anthony entertained the crowd with spot-on renditions of Frank Sinatra classics.
Politis thanked everyone for patronizing the restaurant over the years and expressed his appreciation to the Town of Guttenberg for its ardent support. He also shared the spotlight by naming as “Neighbor and Grand Marshall” one loyal customer, Giorgio Barlaam, presenting him with a plaque as an “Exceptional Italian Barber.”
