Galaxy Towers Tenant Headlines Opera Performance in Manhattan
Posted June 14, 2024The Town of Guttenberg brought 14 seniors on a free day trip into Manhattan for an intimate opera performance on Sunday, Jun. 9, 2024. Taking place at The Greene Space in Soho, the show was titled “Unheard Voices: An Immigrant’s Dream,” featuring world premieres from El Salvador and Argentina. Everyone enjoyed the relaxing afternoon and excellent performance.
Best of all, the star was Guttenberg’s own Oswaldo Iraheta, a Galaxy Towers resident. As described in the program notes, “With ancestral voices from his indigenous roots, tenor Oswaldo Iraheta guides us to the heart of Argentina and El Salvador, through the arduous journey of crossing the Rio Grande.”
Oswaldo is a Salvadoran-American tenor who made his international operatic debut at the Royal Opera House Muscat with Maestro Lorin Maazel. His operatic roles include Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Alfredo (La Traviata), Rodolfo (La Bohème), and Alfred (Die Fledermaus). He has perform in concert with Marvin Hamlisch at Severance Hall in Cleveland, as well as at the Encompass New Opera Theatre Musical Salute Galas.
With an international cast, “Unheard Voices: An Immigrant’s Dream” presented a musical odyssey with roots in El Salvador, Argentina, Russia, Sweden, and Ukraine. It was presented by Encompass New Opera Theatre, founded in 1975 and dedicated to the creation, development, and production of adventurous new music theatre and contemporary opera, as well as dynamic revivals of musical works by American and international composers.
