Join the ALS Walk on May 18
Posted May 17, 2024Mayor Wayne Zitt and the Guttenberg Town Council in conjunction with the Guttenberg Police Department invite all residents to join our first annual ALS Walk on Saturday, May 18.
The walk will begin at 11 a.m. in front of Town Hall, 6808 Park Avenue and conclude at the same location with vendors and free giveaways. There will be music and great items for sale to raise funds for ALS awareness and research.
Also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, ALS is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time.
This is a deeply personal event for the GPD, as one of our finest, Police Officer Jesus Garcia, was diagnosed with ALS. Officer Garcia was not only a police officer, he served as commander of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Honor Guard and was a member of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Special Response Team.
For more information contact Marisol Montanez at 201-868-2315, ext. 300.
The rain date is Sunday, May 19.
