Seniors Take a Trip Back in History to ‘Medieval Times’

Posted October 06, 2023
Thirty Guttenberg seniors took an exotic trip on Saturday, Sept. 30 when they traveled half an hour and 10 centuries to ancient Spain for a visit to “Medieval Times,” the theme restaurant in Lyndhurst, NJ.

Entering a castle-shaped building over a drawbridge, they were greeted in a hall of armor and weaponry. Crowned in blue, they were then ushered to a special viewing area and the feast began with tomato bisque and toasted garlic bread, soon to be followed by roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, herb-basted potato, pastry dessert, unlimited soft drinks, and coffee.

Meanwhile, the games unfolded in front of them as knights in various colors performed on foot and horseback. The seniors cheered their blue favorites and shot countless videos as the knights jousted and competed with lances, axes, bolas, and broadswords throughout the two-hour show.

Other attractions included meeting the queen who hosted the event, the master of horses, and the royal falconer.

The event was planned and organized by Senior Services Coordinator Belkis Rubio with the support of Mayor Wayne Zitt and the Town Council. Next on the senior agenda is the Amish Experience on Thursday, Oct. 5.
