Recycling – It’s the Law

Posted September 19, 2023

Guttenberg residents are reminded to recycle correctly. According to the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, “Recycling is a key aspect of our state’s solid waste management strategy and is both an environmental and economic success story.”

It’s also the law. Residents are required to collect bottles, cans, and other containers in one recycling container, while paper grades are collected separately in another recycling container.

Items like electronics, CFLs, smoke detectors, and oil-based paint should be dropped off at household hazardous waste (HHW) events. Also remember that recyclable containers should be rinsed before disposal and that recycling should always be loose, not bagged.

For any questions about recycling contact the Guttenberg DPW at 201-868-2315, ext. 240.

Download Recycle Coach from the Apple app store or Google Play to help with your recycling questions.
