Residents Are In for a (Frozen) Treat
Posted September 22, 2023There’s a new dessert in town, and boy is it a winner. Mayor Wayne Zitt and the town council cut the ribbon on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 welcoming Bon Koko to the neighborhood at 6802 Park Avenue, just down the block from Town Hall.
Co-owners Samantha Mighty and Christian Hesse are local residents with family background in the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. Together they developed Bon Koko ices, a delicious frozen treat based on coconut water. Building on that, they crafted a whole selection of products, most notably a line of absolutely scrumptious vegan ice creams.
Also available are baked goods including cookies and banana bread, plus hazelnut cocoa spread, plant-based milk, and ocean-harvested sea moss gel imported from St. Lucia.
Handling production themselves – including the store logo and mural – they rely exclusively on organic or sustainable products, manufacturing all the desserts inhouse.
With eclectic personal work histories including music, operations, and insurance, they gambled everything to pursue a dream, and Guttenberg is the lucky beneficiary. Head on over to try their superb original desserts, or contact them at 551-342-4537 for local deliveries.
Hours are Monday from 2 till 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday to Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visit them online at bonkoko.com.
