Learn Techniques of Creative Fashion Recycling with ‘Upcycle Coalition’

Posted October 13, 2022
Upcycle Coalition is a workshop sponsored by Guttenberg Arts that meets once a month with the focus of bringing awareness to circularity in fashion. Participants will reuse secondhand garments and textiles, make a tote bag, and learn how to use the sewing machine. As the meetings progress, students will be exposed to natural dye workshops, printmaking techniques, garment construction and the building of a creative, collaborative community.

Instructor Talita Cabral is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist and educator based in Jersey City since 2016. She is trained in fashion and visual arts and is accomplished in natural dyeing techniques, textile work, clothing and surface design. She grew up in a city nestled between the mega metropolis of Sao Paulo and the edge of the great Atlantic rainforest, inspired since her youth by the collision of urban energy with the uniquely misty and moist jungle climate.

The next Upcycle Coalition meeting is from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Guttenberg Arts, 6903 Jackson St. Meetings are free to the public (suggested donation of $20). Click Here for additional information and to register.
