Mayor & Council Honor Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day

Posted May 13, 2022

Sunday, May 15, 2022 is National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Mayor Wayne Zitt and the Town Council invite all residents to join in honoring those officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. We owe all of our first responders a great debt of gratitude and want them to know their service is recognized and deeply appreciated.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. This year National Police Week runs from May 11 to 17.
