Hudson County celebrates Women’s History Month by honoring women from all over the county for their selfless, compassionate, and noble acts for the last year during the COVID-19 crisis.

Rebecca Acosta was this year’s honoree from Guttenberg. Since joining North Hudson Community Action Corporation in 2009, Rebecca has devoted herself to helping the community she serves. She is currently one of eight directors reporting to CEO Joan Quigley. At the beginning of the pandemic, Rebecca was asked by NHCAC Chairman Joseph M. Muniz to establish and manage a mega COVID-19 testing center in Hudson County. This center services Guttenberg, North Bergen, West New York, Weehawken, and Union City. In 2020, the center tested more than 50,000 residents. When COVID-19 vaccinations became available in late December, Rebecca was recruited to start and manage the vaccination program for NHCAC. Thank to her strong organizational and management skills, more than 12,000 vaccines have been administered to date. Rebecca’s efforts demonstrate the desire to eradicate the pandemic.

Also honored were Emilia Cruz of Bayonne, Yolanda Torres of East Newark, Ann Logan of Hoboken, Lynette Medeiros of Hoboken, Stacey Flanagan of Jersey City, Holly Hilton Capobianco of Kearny, Janet Castro of North Bergen, Kathleen Gerbasio of Secaucus, Marileidys Baldeo of West New York and the first ever Women’s Group Award dedicated to an entire team of first Responders from Weehawken: Anna Twardowski, Rita Fallon, Amanda Bartkus, Ammy Gomez, Marilyn Moran, Victoria Gonzalez, Amanda Viant, Shari Pople, Janine Brancaccio and Stefania Tattoli.
