PSE&G Warns of Telephone Scams
Posted February 15, 2021PSE&G has observed a recent increase in scammers contacting customers, claiming to be PSE&G employees and falsely alleging overdue balances and threatening to shut off power without immediate payment.
The scammers are directing customers to go to their online bank and use a third-party money transfer application.
Though PSE&G will call customers if they are behind on their bills to remind them to make a payment, PSE&G will not call a customer, demand a payment and say someone is on their way to shut off service. This is a sign that you're being scammed.
At this time, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, PSE&G has suspended service disconnections for residential customers. PSE&G does not accept payments through prepaid debit cards or third-party mobile payment applications.
When the scammers call, they will either leave a number or a number will appear on the customer’s caller ID. You should never hit return call. Instead, call 1-800-436-PSEG (7734) for a PSE&G customer operations associate.
