Police Department Honors Retiring Police Sgt. Joseph Fay with ‘Walkout’ Ceremony
Posted December 31, 2019Friends, family, town officials, police officers, and supporters gathered in front of the Guttenberg Police Station on Friday evening, Dec. 27, 2019 to witness the final “walkout” of retiring Sgt. Joseph Fay.
Public Safety Director Robert White personally thanked Sgt. Fay for his 25 years of service and dedication to the department, and Lt. Juan Barrera presented him with plaque in appreciation for his distinguished career.
In addition, PBA Local 88 President Brian Eckenrode presented him with a watch to honor the occasion.
Sgt. Fay began his career with the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office in 1996 and transferred to the Guttenberg P.D. in 1998. He has held many important positions within the department, including training officers in domestic violence, pursuit, and firearms handling.
An honor guard presentation and the playing of a bagpiper preceded the walkout, with Sgt. Fay’s family gathered on one side of the front steps and his fellow officers lined up on the other side.
